KRUK Group, in cooperation with the Society for Promotion of Financial Education, already for the second time has prepared a comic book for youngest children about the adventures of Marcel and Zuza. This time, the young protagonists learn about the problems of adults as their parents get into debts. The "How to deal with debt?" comic book will reach primary school cooperating with the Society. On the basis of this comic book a lesson on household finances will be conducted.
Last year's edition of the comic book entitled "What is debt?" comprises four simple stories showing that it is worth to return borrowed things (e.g. toys) and manage reasonably even such a small budget as allowance. This year, the comic book "How to deal with debt?" touches upon much more serious matters – financial problems of a family.
- At first glance, the issue of indebtedness may seem too mature for the pupils of primary schools but in our opinion financial education should be commenced as soon as possible – says Karolina Barańska from KRUK Group. – The awareness what debt is and how to cope with it helps in the future to avoid many ill-considered financial decisions. When preparing the comic book, we wanted to show that we should not shape a fake impression of reality for our children and hide the truth from them. The fact that a child will know about financial problems at home does not necessarily mean it will be a burden for them. On the contrary, it will help them better understand their parents' behaviour, for example the refusal to buy them a toy.
The comic book "How to deal with debt?" will reach primary schools cooperating with the Society for Promotion of Financial Education, where, based on this comic book, lessons on the issue of debt will be conducted. The comic book will help explain the essence and role of money, debt, and saving, and will facilitate the learning of responsibility for financial decisions, even the minor ones.
The story of a family which got into financial problems, presented on four pages of the comic book, children will learn that they can also help save money and how the debt affects the well-being of their parents. KRUK Group is the author of the texts while the artwork has been prepared by the Society for Promotion of Financial Education. The comic book is a part of the sixth edition of the "My first money" project conducted by SKEF.
Both parts of the comic book - "What is debt?" and "How to deal with debt?" - can be downloaded from KRUK's website in electronic form:
